Carbon Sherpa sponsors highways live: sustainable and resilient roads

We are thrilled to announce that Carbon Sherpa is proud to sponsor Highways Live, the national workshop series bringing together local authorities, highways institutions and contractors to tackle one of the UK’s most pressing infrastructure challenges: decarbonising road maintenance.

The Event

Highways Live: Sustainable and Resilient Highways brings key decision-makers across the highways sector to Birmingham on 9 July 2026 at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel. In partnership with the RSTA and UK Roads Leadership Group (UKRLG), this event explores how the roads sector can balance performance, productivity and funding pressures while delivering meaningful carbon reduction.

The day covers critical topics including:

Net-zero maintenance strategies. How innovation and best practice can reduce carbon while improving performance.

Funding optimisation. Data-driven investment and the value of preventative maintenance.

Climate resilience. Adapting to extreme weather events and building long-term infrastructure resilience.

Technical solutions. From preventative treatments and permanent patching to end-of-life recycling options.

Why we are supporting the event

At Carbon Sherpa, we believe the path to decarbonisation runs through practical, systems-level thinking. The highways sector accounts for significant UK carbon emissions, yet solutions often feel abstract or out of reach.

Highways Live cuts through that. It brings together the strategists, engineers and operators who actually maintain our roads, creating a space where cutting-edge sustainability thinking meets real-world constraints. Where carbon reduction and cost efficiency aren’t competing priorities, but strategic partners.

That’s exactly the kind of tangible progress we’re built to support.

Who should attend?

If you work in highways asset management, local government infrastructure or highway maintenance strategy, this event is designed for you. It’s free to attend for public sector delegates and offers CPD accreditation. You’ll hear from keynote speakers including the Head of Asset Management Strategy at National Highways, and participate in technical sessions led by leading contractors and councils already implementing sustainable practices.
